Mayor: Loss of River Street Market is “devastating”

The loss of the River Street Market is devastating to the local community, according to Mayor Ray Delong. He said the fire that destroyed the market caused a “tremendous loss to the community.” He said “a small town without a grocery store is a dying town. It’s a terrible tragedy for the village itself … not only for Doug but for the citizens.”

Doug Bragg has owned the River Street Market for three years. The business itself has been around since 1951. The scene is still dangerous for firefighters and they’ve been hampered in their investigation. Still no word what caused the blaze Tuesday night.
