Injury Accident In DKC

One person is hurt in a head on collision at the intersection of State Road 1 and County Road 64 in DeKalb County, halfway between Spencerville and St. Joe. Stephen Witte was traveling south on 1 when he encountered traffic that had slowed because of another vehicle turning left. Witte was unable to stop in time and crossed the center line to avoid hitting the cars in front of him. He hit another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle went to the hospital with cuts to the head and chest. The investigation into the crash continues.

Aquifer Plan Misses Again

It just isn’t getting any easier for proponents of the aquifer plan to sell water to surrounding communities in the region. Now, the Defiance County Commissioners opposed Artesian of Pioneer’s plans to offer the water at a price to Henry County, Liberty Center, Whitehouse and some Toledo suburbs. The panel unanimously approved a resolution of non-support of aquifer drilling.

FC Jobs Numbers For July

The unemployment rate in Fulton County for July was up from the previous month. It was at 5.1 percent in the county, up from 4.6 percent in June. Last July, the rate was also 5.1 percent in Fulton County. The labor force estimate shows a labor force of 22,500 there, with 1,100 of those being unemployed.

It Is Time To Help The Kids

The Clothes for Kids program, through the Defiance Area Foundation, wants sponsors to help get the academic year started. The program does not take donations of used clothing. Children enrolled in the program are not identified, only their clothing sizes are given to sponsors. Sponsors will be given a list of drop-off sites where they can bring the clothes. The project helps kids in need…without the stigma.

Heads Up Drivers

And finally…the Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to be safe this Labor Day weekend. Troopers will focus enforcement efforts on removing drunk drivers from the roadways. Last year, there were 22 fatal crashes which killed 24 people in Ohio. Ten of those fatalities were DUI related.

One Dead In 24 Car V Ped

A Napoleon construction worker dies on an area road. Officers say Michael Massucci of Waterville was eastbound on Highway 24 near mile marker 42…when Nathan Soto stepped out of his construction truck on the shoulder of the roadway. Witnesses told officers Massucci was changing lanes when he hit Soto, killing him at the scene. The investigation into the fatal accident continues.

Raynor Gives Plea

Charles Raynor of Bryan pleads guilty to sexual battery charges in a Williams County courtroom. Prosecutors say Raynor, who was indicted in March, had sex with a female he was the guardian of. It’s just one of several cases he and his family are involved in. Raynor has a court date on another case this week.

WC Health Dist Earns Big Distinction

The Williams County Health District earns accreditation from the national Public Health Accreditation Board. Ohio requires county health departments to be accredited by July 1, 2020. Williams County is just the 20th of 88 counties in the state to receive the distinction. It means the health district meets or exceeds a common set of national standards. The accreditation last five years with yearly reviews.

Spruce Up Day Nears

It’s time to clean up, Bryan! They call it a spruce up day. Residents can help if they like. The 2018 Bryan Clean Up Day is set for September 15th. It will focus on sweeping sidewalks, pulling weeds and removing trash around the storefronts on the square, and in the alleyways behind the stores. Lots Of Road Work In The Area

ODOT has a list of projects underway in Williams County. Officials say about seven million dollars in road construction is taking place on projects like the one on Highway 6, from the 49 cutoff to the Ohio 15 interchange…it gets a new asphalt surface. Another project is a culvert replacement on 127, between county roads M and M.50, near the Ohio Turnpike. That work is scheduled through mid-September. Those are just a portion of all of the road work going on in the area. Drive carefully.
