Crash On 69

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a motorcycle accident west of Fremont…along State 120 near the I-69 overpass in Steuben County. The first units on the scene found a single motorcycle was located along with two occupants. They say…45 year old Benner Merrick of rural Fremont was eastbound on 120, from State Road 127 when the he lost control of the motorcycle. They say a flat tire could have caused the wreck. The bike then went down on its side causing Merrick and his rear seat passenger, Deann Bond of rural Fremont, to be thrown from the motorcycle. Neither Merrick nor Bond were wearing helmets at the time of the crash and both suffered injuries to the head. They believe alcohol is a factor in the cause of the crash. Both are in serious condition at this hour. The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Indiana State Police.
