The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted local plans to celebrate Williams County’s 200th birthday in 2020, but local officials have found a way to have the party in 2024. The Ohio legislature created Williams County in 1820, but it took about four years to organize the government. Commissioners are considering having a special meeting in June to commemorate the original Williams County commissioners meeting, and events are planned in April as well. While all dates and plans are tentative…officials say the committee has discussed having a three-day event in April for the celebration. The first day would be an opening ceremony held at the Williams County Courthouse, followed by a series of events on the next day and a closing ceremony, possibly in Montpelier, on the final day. The committee will be contacting mayors of every community in Williams County about hosting events to tie in with the celebration.
