Pioneer’s safety and finance committees hold a joint meeting to discuss plans for funding two new fire trucks and a new fire station. Pioneer Mayor Ed Kidston recommended the fire department put together a bid package in order to calculate how much it will cost and have a plan ready for the public by December. Fire Chief Denny Fackler and Assistant Chief Rodger Swank presented Kidston and the committee members with a packet providing what the department needs and stats about the department’s current fleet. Fackler said most fire trucks have a life span of 25 to 30 years and take about three years to arrive after they are ordered. Pioneer’s trucks will be about 25 years old three years from now, which Fackler said is important in conjunction with rising prices year over year.
