At The Accountant’s Table

The Williams County Port Authority will be getting help from an outside accounting firm to help file state-mandated reports. Dawn Fitzcharles, vice chair of the authority, says the group’s finances are set up on “a three-legged stool” with Fitzcharles, a book-keeper and help from the Ohio Auditor’s Office. Last year, the auditor’s office helped finalize the financial statements and filed them to a specific standard. That helps when it comes to the audit. Last year, the contract with the state auditor was for no more than $6,000 dollars while another company Fitzcharles spoke to offered a contract of $7,500. The authority approved the contract with Shultz, Huber & Associates, with member Tyson Stuckey abstaining from the vote because he is a partner at the company. Separately, the authority also approved withdrawing money for construction of two homes in Edon.
