Pioneer’s safety committee and fire department discussed pricing estimates and how to continue the process of purchasing new trucks during a joint meeting at the Pioneer Fire Department. The main priority currently is purchasing a replacement for Engine 71…the backup truck for the department…if Engine 72 goes down. A proposed schedule made by the Village Solicitor…has the village releasing bids on Oct. 8 after the next council meeting with all proposals due back by Nov. 8. The goal will be to establish a short list of respondents by Nov. 13 and a possible selection by a preferred respondent by Dec. 11 with the goal of contracts being executed by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. The fire department reached out to three manufacturers to get price estimates. A new engine from Spencer Manufacturing is estimated to cost $1,029,500. Sutphen gave a minimum estimate of $1,050,000 and Pierce Manufacturing gave a minimum estimate of $1,300,000. A truck purchased from any of the three companies would take anywhere from three to five years to be delivered.
