The Continental Village Council discusses a proposed land annexation and an ordinance for in-town solar, among other topics during its meeting. The land in question is owned by Homier Farms, and is roughly 80% of what is now the EDPR solar farm. Around two years ago when the solar farm was first planning on going in, the landowners approached the village about the land being annexed into the village…so the real estate tax monies from the solar farm would come to the village. It’s estimated that these real estate tax monies will be around $70,000-75,000 a year for some 30 years. EDPR asked that the annexation not take place until the project was closer to being completed…in which the village agreed to with a two-year timeline, set for the annexation paperwork to be started, officials say.. The supply chain issues during the pandemic…and the solar project was only completed recently. The two-year deadline given for petitioning for annexation was not met. Council voted to officially ask the current landowners for documents in writing, stating that a petition for annexation will take place.
